x348........Tithing Is Of The Law

tithing is found in the Bible as part of the the OT laws. It has everything to do witht the sin offering to be made for sin by Israel--something which the NT clearly takes away--

Heb 10:18* Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin

but also, one thing which the NT also clearly says is that under the NT--under grace--if we are led of the Spirit (not by man!!)--we are no longer under the law

"But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law." (Galatians 5:18, KJV).

Have you ever wondered why we feel so bored and unenthusiastic (and maybe sick to your stomach) when the pastor preaches on Sunday mornings about tithing? This is because it is of the law--not of grace. We are being held under law when we are taught that it is necessary for us to pay a tithe. We are being led by man and not by the Spirit. (remember: the new covenant way of giving was by the leading of the Spirit--to the poor within the church).

The truth is that the NT gives us a much much more powerful way to give--something which is not limited by 10%--something which is not a limitation as the tithe is. This is called Spirit-lead giving--it is spoken of in many places in the NT--most purely in the book of Acts 2.

44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
(Acts 2:44-47, KJV).

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
(Acts 4:32-35, KJV).

Some will point out that in Acts 4, the Bible tells us that the money way "laid at the apostles feet"---but we must continue reading--the money was then distributed amongst the people.

THIS IS BECAUSE THE ENTIRE CHURCH WAS DOING MINISTRY--THEY ALL NEEDED PROVISION FOR THEIR SERVICE TO GOD--NOT JUST THE LEADERS. IN THE OT, IT WAS ONLY THE LEVITES WHO WERE ALLOWED TO SERVE (MINISTER) TO GOD. BUT IN THE NT ANYONE CAN SERVE GOD IN THEIR ANOINTING--WE ARE CALLING OURSELVES "ANOINTED" WHEN WE SAY WE ARE A CHRISTIAN--AND MINISTRY IS THE FIRST USE OF THE ANOINTING IN THE BIBLE--(THE PRIESTS WERE ANOINTED FOR MINISTRY))--THE ANOINTING MEANS MINISTRY.

IN THE OT THE SYSTEM WAS SET UP TO SUPPORT THE MINISTRY OF THE "SOME"--THE LEVITES, WHO WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO WERE ANOINTED--THE ONLY ONES WHO COULD SERVE GOD. IN THE NT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHO THE LEVITIES WERE--THEY NO LONGER HAD A CERTAIN TRIBE WHICH WAS ANOINTED TO SERVE GOD--BUT THEY REALIZED THAT THEY ALL WERE CALLED. THE NAME OF "CHRISTIAN" MEANT THAT THEY WERE ANOINTED.

"Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?"
(Galatians 4:21, KJV).

It is like asking --"first obey the laws that you are breaking--then God will save you"--Of course we know that it is when we recognize our sin that we are saved by grace--and that we are to continue in this grace--not go back "under the law" tithing is of the law--and certainly an area in which we can "go back under law"--instead of accepting the grace of Spirit-lead giving.

the NT bible clearly tells us that the law--which still stands in it's entirety--has a new purpose for Christians. For the OT Jew- the law was something which they were held under to obey.

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
(Romans 3:20, KJV).
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
(Romans 3:28, KJV).

In the NT, the new purpose of the law is just to show us where we fall short of God's perfection---we now have the better sacrifice---the better offering (BETTER THAN THE OFFERING WHICH CAME FROM THE TITHE!!) OF CHRIST AT THE CROSS--THE SHED BLOOD OF JESUS! THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS BETTER THAN THE TITHE--AND SETS US FREE FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW--AND TITHING IS OF THE LAW.

therefore we are not HELD under law--AND TITHING IS OF THE LAW--NOT OF GRACE--

Preaching tithing shows that the leadership of a church does not trust the people in the church--they teach the Spirit of God--they teach that the people should be Spirit-lead--and yet they do not trust the Spirit of God that the people will give to them--that the Spirit will lead the people to give to them! They have taken on a mandate (to build a church building) which is not in the bible--(the NT Bible--we do not need to build a temple for God to dwell in anymore)---they believe themselves to be the "some" who are "in ministry"--and so they are operating the church by the tithe which is also of the OT--and they are clearly not imitating the NT church and its' concepts of ministry--authority--leadership--anointing ot all--ministry to all--and all supported by spirit-lead giving--by giving to the poor within the church.

We are sure that all leaders of Christian churches would genuinely like to see people saved and healed and delvered--we all would! We are not saying that leaders of churches are greedy (but what if greediness entered into the tradition of church hundreds of years ago?--as long as we are ignorant of our own history--we will continue to repeat it!)--the question is simply are we follwing after patterns of growthi which seem to be "right"--but in fact are limiting the move of God? The fact is that to the degree we witness the Gosple and feed the poor and pray for the sick, is the direct degree to which God's kingdom will be built. The dileema of the tithe is that it limits ministry. In a "tithing church" we are creating a class system, we are saying that one "minister" is greater that the rest--and we turn the church tot he OT--and tot he worldy systme of oepration--which will eventually slow the move of God.

Tithing is actually Gods permissive will, but not His perfect will. He allows it, if we insist on following the old testament as doctrine, but we should be able to discern that the new covenant provides a better system in all points of our lives. Everything was laid upon the stripes of Jesus. The sacrifice had changed. The ministry has changed. The offering has changed. The grace is greater and Spirit led. A new thing is in place forever in the heavenlies. But it is up to us how much of it we will believe for. Is it just for salvation?? Or does that new covenant extend to every area of our lives? The blood is far reaching. Into our giving it now flows and directs to the current needs of the church and the world. Not mandated by man, but flowing from the loving heart of God through us. As we now can trust Him to pour it back to us.Now requiring of us a more mature walk, more trust, more freedom, more relationship with Him building as we give. His ways, perfect and life giving. Now perfect by the blood of the lamb, can we believe HIM??

Now, not permitted, and tolerated and half working, but full operation and life.......

The superiority of the new covenant is that it changes our hearts, and now our giving comes from our hearts and our desire to love God, not to obey the letter of the law. The amount of giving is not measured in the new covenant, only the measure of how much we will love God and trust Him. Then our giving and receiving can be unlimited, even more than the required 10th and even more people blessed.
