X04.21..........Does Your Tithe Really Rebuke the Devourer??
Anyone who attends a "tithe-believing church" has certainly heard the preaching, taken from the book of Malachi that says if you bring the tithe into the storehouse (the church), God will "rebuke the devourer".
Anyone who has heard this verse expounded on in church will understand what this is taken to mean.......
The "devourer" is Satan---and he is trying to eat you up--he is trying to eat your finances--your life--your family.
Well, this is absolutely true---Satan is always trying to devour anyone he can. He certainly comes to "steal kill and destroy" wherever he can. Her certainly does not like born-again--Spirit-filled Christians--who serve God and witness the Gospel wherever they can. He certainly does not want you to be blessed--he does not want you to be prosperous in God--he certainly does not want you to be a witness for Christ.
But, let me ask you a question:
When Satan comes to you, with a temptation--with a problem--with a torment---trying to devour you--what do you do? What do you say to Satan when he comes to harass you and destroy you and devour you??
Do you say "Get back devil--I rebuke you with my tithe!"
I don't think so!
Instead--when Satan comes to steal from you--to hurt you--to hurt your family---your job--your finances---when Satan comes to devour you, don't you say...
"Get back devil---BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST!!"
Of course you do! You know what works against Satan and his demons---THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST---RIGHT!?
You know your authority in God---you know as a believer that the name of Jesus Christ rebukes every demon in hell--the name of Jesus rebukes the devil--the blood of Jesus rebukes Satan and sends him flying back to hell--you know this--because you've done it--and it works--and you know that this is the authority the word of God gives every believer--in the new covenant...
Lu 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
Mr 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
The New covenant had a better sacrifice than the old--we must understand this point!
The tithe of the old covenant, was, for Israel at that time, the blood offering which forgave their sin.
The tithe was always animals or grain. THE TITHE WAS BLOOD.
In the new covenant, Jesus called Himself meat and bread and offered His blood. You know this--right!? And you know that the new covenant sin offering--the blood of Jesus, is what rebukes the devourer--it is the blood of Jesus which protects you and your family and your finances from the plans of the enemy--right?
Which is greater---your obedience to law--or the obedience of Jesus to the cross?
You know the answer--we are saved by grace--not by works---right?
We are made safe by His obedience--by His sacrifice--which is greater than anything we could do, or any offering we could make--or any law we could obey---right?
The tithe paying of Israel was a type--a shadow (Israel is a shadow of the church--not the other way around!---of what Jesus would do in the new covenant.
Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
Think of what Israel was doing: they were taking 1/10th of the increase of certain herd animals and grain--offering it for sin--in the process God promised that He would rebuke the devourer. This is a shadow of what Jesus would do---He offered Himself--the perfect (and final!) sacrifice for all sin. In the process, the authority of the blood of Jesus rebukes the devourer for the Christian. (You know it because you have used His blood for this purpose so many times!!)
Once again--as with everything in the new covenant, the Christian has grace--a free gift--of salvation--healing--and deliverance from the enemy. The new covenant gives us the unconditional love of God found in faith in Christ--not based on our own works --but the gift of God that He sent his only Son to die in our place--to shed His blood--which heals us--and delivers us from every snare of the enemy.
The shadow of the old covenant in this area was based on Israel's obedience--based on their following of the laws of God with regard to sin offering. Israel had to get it right--they had a condition on the rebuking of the devourer--they had to make right and correct sin offerings (and if we read the book of Malachi in context we see that this was exactly what Israel was doing wrong at that time).
Now, after Christ, Gods love is unconditional--His salvation is unconditional--His healing is unconditional--and the rebuking of the devourer is not based on our obedience to the law--but on THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.
Now, you know that it is His blood which rebukes the devourer---so--
Why do you pay tithe?
If you truly believe that it is your tithe paying that rebukes the enemy, aren't you in danger of turning away from grace, and believing that it is your own works which save you?
